Remarks:
The perceived threat from Islamic State was explored as part of a multinational survey, also undertaken in Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and the United States of America. The question about Shamima Begum, a Muslim, was only asked in Britain. While still a schoolgirl in London, she had travelled to Syria in 2015 to join Islamic State and subsequently married one of its fighters. She was stripped of her British citizenship in 2019, thereby preventing her return to the UK, and has been living in refugee camps in the Middle East ever since.
