It does not seem hypocritical, to me, to hold the opinion that people’s relationship with God is a personal matter which need not automatically disqualify them from office, but the views an individual has on matters they may need to vote on are very much a factor in whether I am willing to vote for them.

Fundamentally, I’m not going to judge someone on such a wide statement as “They are a Christian” – but I will absolutely judge someone by their likely voting patterns on subjects I care about.

The idea that this is hypocritical rather confuses me.
